Day #34 –
Tuesday July 19th, 2016
Farmington, UT to Las Vegas, NV
Any wonderful trip, just like any good story has a beginning,
a middle and an end. The middle tends to be the heart of the story, the plot
that thickens, the adventure. Just like a trip you start off slow and the
adventure builds and eventually you reach your destination. So what does one
have to do with another? These have something in common, just like Life… We
take every day as it comes, we encounter obstacles, we swerve or jump over the
barricades and we find a way to get things done. The Key Here is…There’s Always
a Way, All you need to do is Believe UCAAN. Believe you can survive the 9 hour
drive with 30 rest stop breaks, believe that you can get through that 500 page
book that seems never to end, believe that you can fight for your life, that
UCAAN Persevere. That with every step you take, it’s a choice and there’s a
chance something won’t work out. Being able to accept and deal with what’s
ahead of you and enjoy the ride.
Ok So back to your regularly scheduled blog.
Doryn and I left Utah and my dear friend (and Client) Nikki
and her family. If I had the choice I would have loved to stay longer with
them, but we had a tight schedule and a long drive with a lot of stops. I woke
up with a headache, something that I hadn’t experienced in awhile. So I did
what I usually do, drink some tea with caffeine, drink tons of water and take
some Tylenol. I went up to the kitchen to find the family up and lively. Nikki
was with the kids eating breakfast, as her hubby who had come home late from
work was sleeping. I opted to let Doryn get a little extra beauty rest as I had
some breakfast and talked to the kids. We soon found ourselves, Doryn included
outside in the back yard taking photos of the animals – the pair of horses, the
sheep that talked a lot, the barking hunting dog, the buzzing honey bees and
the awesome police dog. Not to mention the other adopted dog and the cat in the
house. After we got ready to leave. I had such a wonderful time and didn’t want
to go, but we had a long drive and had to go.
Doryn and I packed our bags and the kids helped us take them
out to the car. When it was time to go, Doryn and I hugged Nikki and the family
and were off! Our first stop was 20 minutes away in Salt Lake City. Luckily at
this point my headache had subsided and we were on our way to meet Doryn’s
father for brunch. It had been 8 years since they had seen one another and he
wanted to see him. I was more than willing to do what I could to support Doryn
and agreed it would be a great stop. So we drove to a popular national landmark
in SLC called the Park Café, which was across the street from you’ve guessed
it, a community park! We arrived at the restaurant and met up with his father,
we told him to watch out for our car and the awesome logos. He spotted us in a
moment, just as Doryn spotted his dad when we pulled up. It was like a reunion,
wonderful to see the smile on my man’s face and his father’s. So we all enjoyed
brunch with one another and all talked. I was impressed at the amount of
information that Doryn’s father knew about UCAAN and our trip. He had actually
taken the time to look into it, which was awesome! We probably spent a little
more than 1.5 hours with his dad and then we were off again to meet up quick
with a dear friend of mine, whose father was recently diagnosed with cancer.
But then it hit me, the migraine was back with a vengeance and so much worse.
As we drove and I drank water and we stopped multiple times, I had to make the
hard decision of not seeing my friend, because honestly I couldn’t focus or
concentrate. So Doryn, my Mr Wonderful offered to drive the entire route.
We drove through so much beauty on the way to Las Vegas, even
an area or Arizona in between, which we were surprised by! I tried to rest and
nap a bit on the drive, but often found myself trying to stay awake to keep
Doryn company. It was amazing how much the scenery changed as we drove, we saw
hillsides full of trees, mountains and red rocks.
We arrived in Vegas a little
later than expected, but when we did the lights were colorful and bright and
lit up the night sky. The vibrant colors filled the streets, the people walking
everywhere, the cars lined the streets and the traffic was bustling. Luckily I
chose to book a hotel off the strip to avoid the casinos, the hustle and bustle
of Vegas and the loud noises. I picked the Rumor hotel, a resort style boutique
hotel across from the Hard Rock. Our hotel was warm and welcoming with colorful
lights on the sign and fun décor inside. I checked in and got our room keys,
Doryn and I drove around to park and walked into our room. BOY Were we ever
surprised!!! Our room was magical to say the least. A nice white sofa with a
metal table in front of it, a large tub in the corner of the room, a big comfy
king bed, a nice sized closet and a bathroom with a fabulous shower and full
accents of purple. We were definitely excited because this room was better than
we expected! We just spent the evening in our room, ordered some food from a
local popular pizza joint and relaxed till we went to bed.
